Brilliant, this picture shows a demonstration by women who are quite rightly outraged by the men only policy at the Augusta Golf Club in the US. If you look carefully at the back of the photo a guy is holding a banner up, saying 'iron my shirt'. GENIUS

Went to Brighton on Saturday, for Raig and Slaters belated birthday we had a full set of colonels including Nat and D I think we must of started drinking fairly early as I don't have the greatest amount of details on the night, apart from seeing a car with a sticker on it saying 'Police aware: shit car' and Ailsa losing her voice. It was nice to see everyone from Brighton including Tone and Grinner and I think actually apart from a wee drama queen moment, I did alright including feeling alright in the morning. As a statement against all these young handsome boy bands we have decided to make our own boy band comprised of fat old dudes with no sense of rythm, we are going to call ourselves 'Lumpy Dog', picture included. By Sunday Ailsa had pretty much completely lost her voice so I decided to empathise with her by going to the pub, drinking qute a few beers and losing the ability to speak as well. Marta had bought some mad presents for Raig and Slater for their birthday including a imitation fake biscuit (does that mean it's real) and fake poo. Quite random weekend all in all, and I can't believe I am back to work. You can see the rest of the photo's here

The White Stripes have just released a song called 'Seven Nation Army', it's a bit of a thumper of a tune, but it's the video that is truly brilliant (images from video). The whole video is a series of triangles moving from the background to foreground, with the band and other images utilising the triangle in some way, with black, white and red dominationg the video. It's a complete visual treat. You can get the mpg from MTV.

While walking to Kung Fu last night, I a pigeon dropped a little present on my head (complete bastard). From this encounter I realised two things.
1. However much you know, you can't defend yourself from all attacks
2. People who say 'that's good luck' are pillocks and shouldn't be listened to.
You know the whole lucky thing was probably started by a boy and girl walking down street, boy trying to impress, gets shat upon from a great height and to keep face tells her it's the most lucky thing ever. She believes it and tells all her friends how lucky it is. Apparently now its far luckier than winning the lottery. Give me the money any day

BBC's Big Read - 'Stranger in a Strange Land' by Robert Heinlein

Just been looking at the link BBC's Big Read, where you enter your favourite book and then write a short comment on it.

My favourite is 'Stranger in a Strange Land' by Robert Heinlein, the basic story is about a human, born and bred on Mars, brought for the first time to the planet Earth as a young man. It's a story into the human psyche and the general conditioning and programming of all of us from stimuli such as advertising, religion and other propaganda's bombarded at us constantly throughout our life by society. This is done by looking at our principles, rules, regulations and morals through someone else's eyes who hasn’t been socially programmed.

The book when released in the 60's immediately had 60,000 words cut by the publishers who thought it was just to controversial, and only after Heinlein's death recently has the full version been available, even now in a more moderate and liberal society it still very hard hitting. There is no other book like it, you grok!!!

Is Bush Secretly Playing Risk

Ok, I know all the conspiracy theories and frankly I am quite bored of them. Yes Bush may of attacked Iraq for the Oil (1,2), or to stop the euro vying for dominance against the dollar as the major currency in world trade (1,2), but I have another theory. The way I see it, now that he is discussing going to war with Syria, Iran, North Korea, Wales (not sure about this last one) it all becomes a bit more clear, the only true reason must be that he is playing a real game of Risk with one of his cronies in the white house, just think about it for a bit.

He is not going for Europe or Asia yet as they are always a stinker to capture, he is starting out in the Middle East so that he can capture Africa (we know Bush) and South America (we also know about Venezuela) and get a few armies every time he rolls. I still don’t understand why he didn’t go for Australia straight away as you can always create a fortress there before total world domination. To prove this all we need to do is wait till Bush try to take Kamchatka or Ikurtsk and then I will be vindicated.

dragoman (DRAG-uh-man) noun, plural dragomans or dragomen

An interpreter or guide.

[The word took a scenic route to its present form via French, Italian, and
medieval Latin/Greek, from Arabic tarjuman, from Aramaic turgemana, from
Akkadian targumanu (interpreter).]

Went for a bit of a weekend break with some old mates somewhere in the Midlands (near Leominster) in some little cottage off a farm. It was top, we went for walks (borrowing some hounds on the way) had some good food and a few drinks. The farm was beautiful as it was spring with wee lambs around and some feisty ducks and chickens.

click to enlargeOn the Sunday we decided before we went to get some food at a pub we would go for a bit of a walk which was discussed at length by our faithful guides Ian and Kate (top picture). They decided it would be a good idea to go for a walk around the picturesque surroundings of a working quarry. click to enlargeNow I have to tell you that view across those slag heaps is something I will never forget and I still wonder how that site is not one of the seven wonders of the world. The picture below is the gang with the wonderful back drop of quarry machinery. To top everything off we started to walk into what appeared to be a land fill site when the excitement got a little to much for me and the rest (what a fine smell you’ve discovered) and we decided we would have to go back the way we had come.

Also I would never cheat at board games
a) Katamaran (that is definitely how you spell it, google is wrong)
b) Miento (is definitely a Japanese flower!!!)

I have just got the new Sony Ericsson P800 (thanks Sporting Matters) and I know what you are probably going to say 'why do you need one of those', 'whats wrong with your old phone' , blah blah blah blah. Well what I have to say is TOY!!!!! I mean probably one of the most boyest toys ever, if you disregard the new Mini Cooper or the Mini Coooper S. It's a PDA, I can take pictures, listen to music, watch movies, read books, hell I can even make telephone calls. BRILLIANT

I can't beleive tourism officials in SARS-hit Hong Kong have been running an ad campaign with the slogan: "Hong Kong will take your breath away." With shortness of breath being one of the main symptoms of the SARS, this wasn't probably one of the best ideas ever

Interesting article by the BBC on the z-machine an alternative method to fusion power other than the two main confinement methods. The other two methods being magnetic confinement (what I do at JET and intertial confinement using LASERS (like the soon to be consructed NIF). Sandia, the group who have built this device have produced some high energy neutrons which is the sign that fusion is going on. This means they have joined the rest of us, hopefully one of these methods (I would be happy for anyone to do it) will reach the important breakthrough of ignition. Here is a really good book by John Wesson about the science of JET funnily enough called 'The Science of JET' and pitched at a level for most people

This SARS virus that seems to be covering the world is actually fairly scarey. It is absolutely mental to think while we are attacking a regime which are supposed to have weapons of mass destruction, there are things invisible that can cover the globe and kill thousands of people within months. The US spend a lot of cash on there defence budget, I wonder how much we all put in to defence of this sort of thing. It is obviously got a lot of people worried as the World Health Organisation doesn't normally bring out a global alert and I think until the experts know the actual causes of SARS how can they be certain of the risk? Could you imagine if this was more aggresive we would seriously have to start thinking about the way we travel and enter different countries and should we be thinking about this already, as the flight culture will only ever increase.

Went to the Bierodrome in Clapham on Saturday with Ailsa, Slater and Sal and had a top time eating mussles and fries and drinking really strong beer. I woke up the next morning feeling fine!! So I worked out what I drank to see if I have come up with a sure fire way of keeping hangovers at bay: Guiness, Jagermeister, B52's, Vodka and Red Bull, strong belgian beer, finishing off with another pint of Guiness and a few bedtime Jagy's seem to be the ticket. Remeber this is not an exact science!!!

Public Enemy - Forum, Kentish Town, London 03 April 03

What a gig!!!!! Travelled down to the Forum in Kentish town, London with D and we where treated to something special. The first act was Killa Kella, human beat-box extraordinaire I mean absolutely amazing. He did this rendition of ‘Back to Life’ by Soul 2 Soul singing exactly like Caron Wheeler with the fattest bass.

The main event PE was absolutely amazing, they are getting on a bit it is like watching your dad rap, but they still are the rude boyz. The last time I saw them was when I had long hair and probably a decade and a bit ago, and I really wanted them to play ‘He Got Game’ but they decided to play them all. You know hat I mean when you say ‘this is a great track, ugh yes this is a top track as well, oh and this ……and this…..and this!!!!!(head explosion)’. I watched fairly closely and I can't think of one line or one word that Chuck D didn't completely nail, Flavour was faultless and Grif kicked ass. I would'nt mind going to Brighton on Monday and seeing the fella's

The set list was (by dee-J, his reveiw is here)
-Put 'em up
-Welcome to the terrordome
-Bring the noise
-Son of a bush
-Shut em down - the Pete Rock remix
-Black steel in the hour of chaos - this was played to a slow funky
-groove
-He got game
-Revolverlution
-Public Enemy number 1
-Then a short interlude with DJ Lord doing some insane tricks on the 1 and 2's (including that sick "helicopter scratch" trick that has to be heard to be believed)
-Give it up
-911 is a joke
-Don't believe the hype
-Rebel without a pause
-By the time I get to Arizona
-Fight the power
-Too much posse (Flav solo)
-What good is a bomb (Prof Griff solo dedicated to Rage Against the Machine, performed over a heavy rock beat)
-Prophet of rage
-Can't truss it
-Do you wanna go our way (with a beatbox intro from Griff !)
-Gotta give the peeps what they need
-Night of the living bassheads

I feel absolutely terrible today! Had a half day yesterday in order to have a meeting with the Sporting Matters lot and then had a few drinks while watching the England game, now feel like death warmed up. I now understand why I don't drink much during the week.

England 2 - 0 Turkey - match report

We played well yesterday and the young Roonaldo was superb. Nice to see that Darius scored again, ever thought about trying that for the Villa, you pillock. I also knew there was going to be hooligans causing trouble as there is no love lost between the so called fans. I would not want to go to Turkey for the away leg, that's for sure!!
